Slash Socket is a real-time server you run yourself, with a live dashboard for every field, connection and ban. It's free, for Mac and Windows. The app runs the server on your machine; the same runtime also ships as slash-socket-server for hosting anywhere (see Deploy).
Download the app from the Slash Socket download page and launch it. No account, sign-in, or API key is required to run the server locally.
- Install and open Slash Socket.
- Enter a port (defaults to 3001) and press Start. It serves the starter manifest — presence, cursors and a chat — until you give it your own.
- Open the Fields tab: copy the import line under Connect a page and use it in your page.
- Sign in with Slash (Domain tab) to run sockets you define on slash.tools, and to publish your Mac on a domain.
The server binds to all network interfaces, not just localhost, so devices elsewhere on your LAN can connect using your machine's local IP address, not only 127.0.0.1.
