1Your licence
When you buy Slash, or during your free trial, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Slash on the number of Macs your tier allows (Solo 1, Pro 2, Studio 6). The licence doesn't expire and includes future updates.
You may not resell or sublicense Slash, share a licence beyond its seats, get around licence or trial checks, or copy, modify or reverse engineer Slash except where the law allows it regardless of these terms.
2Your account
You sign in to Slash with your GitHub account. You're responsible for keeping that account secure and for what happens under it. Each Mac you sign in on takes a seat of your licence; you can remove Macs from your dashboard at any time.
3Your data, and who is responsible for it
You own everything you create or store with Slash: notes, tasks, reminders, clips, bookmarks, chats, timers, clipboard and screenshot history, files and anything else ("your data"). We claim no rights to it.
Slash stores your data on your own devices, in the data folder you choose in Settings ▸ Data. We don't host, sync, back up, access or receive your data, and we keep no copy of it. Because of this:
- You alone decide where your data is stored and how it's backed up, and you're solely responsible for those backups. We can't recover data that is lost, deleted, corrupted or overwritten.
- If you keep your data folder in a third-party service, such as iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or a Git host, that service's terms, security and availability apply. We aren't responsible for it. Keep any repository that holds your data private.
- You're responsible for the security of your devices and of any folder or service that holds your data, including who else can access them.
- Slash isn't a password manager or a secure vault. Its data files are plain and unencrypted, and anyone with access to the folder can read them. Don't store passwords, credentials, API keys, recovery codes, payment card numbers, health records or other sensitive secrets in Slash.
- Clipboard history records what you copy. It skips items that password managers mark as secret, but we can't guarantee every app marks them. You can make clipboard history temporary, shorten how long it's kept, or turn Paste off in Settings.
You're also responsible for how you use features that reach outside Slash, such as the built-in browser, Socket servers you publish to your own domains, and Deck and Drop on your local network.
4Purchases and refunds
Payments are handled by Polar, which acts as the merchant of record and handles taxes and receipts. Prices are shown at checkout, including any tax that applies.
Every purchase has a 14-day money-back guarantee. Email billing@slash.tools within 14 days of buying and we'll refund you in full; the refunded licence then stops working. This doesn't limit any refund rights you have under the law where you live.
5Updates and changes to Slash
Slash checks slash.tools for updates and can install them for you. We may add, change or remove features over time. We'll try not to remove something you rely on without good reason.
6Acceptable use
Don't use Slash, Socket or slash.tools to break the law, infringe others' rights, distribute malware, attack or overload other systems, or interfere with Slash or its services.
7Third-party services
Slash works alongside services we don't control, such as GitHub, Polar, cloud drives, websites you open in the browser, and the DNS providers you connect to Socket. Their own terms apply, and we aren't responsible for them.
8No warranty
We work hard to make Slash reliable, but it's provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including that Slash will be uninterrupted or error-free, that it will be fit for a particular purpose, or that your data won't be lost or damaged.
9Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, profits or business, arising from your use of Slash, even if we were told it could happen. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Slash in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
10Ending these terms
You can stop using Slash at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms. Your data stays on your devices either way.
11Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and tell you in the app or by email before an important change takes effect. If you keep using Slash after that, the new terms apply.
12Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Sweden, and disputes go to the courts of Stockholm. If you're a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and you can bring a claim in its courts.
If you're a consumer in Sweden, you can also take a dispute to the National Board for Consumer Disputes (Allmänna reklamationsnämnden, ARN). Consumers elsewhere in the EU can contact their national consumer body or the European Consumer Centre in their country.
